I work with individuals of any age or ability! Learning should be life-long and I am happy to join you at any stage of your journey. Typically, teens and adults with blindness/low vision or progressive vision loss benefit from assistive technology training; deafblind individuals of all ages benefit from tactile team training.
I specialize in teaching blind and deafblind people or those with low vision and complex communication needs. If you’re unsure if Hand Under Hand is the right place for you, reach out and let’s chat!
I provide direct services to individuals with disabilities within one hour’s driving distance from Indianapolis. If you live or work further afield, that’s fine, I provide Zoom consultations wherever you are and onsite team training for schools throughout Indiana.
Whatever you already own is a perfect place to start! I enjoy a low-cost, high-outcome approach to accessibility. We can create tactile symbol systems out of recycled materials and we will explore apps and settings on your current devices before I recommend purchasing new equipment.
Assistive technology (AT) is any item, piece of equipment, software program, or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of people with disabilities.
Tactile symbols are a form of 3D communication cards or objects that can be experienced by touch.
I welcome students, family members, caregivers, teachers, and other specialists familiar with the individual to join the discussion as long as they are familiar with the student or person with disabilities. Please note that I will keep the person with disabilities at the center of the conversation and will direct all my questions to them if they are present. If this individual is uncomfortable or unable to participate it would be beneficial for them to join for as much or as little as they wish.
Training can be 1-1, small groups, or -if you’re feeling ambitious- include all the members of your school district!
Services start at $55 per hour with a free introductory conversation. Pricing may be impacted by the format (in person or online), distance, number of participants, and cost of materials.
Absolutely – if your disability is preventing you from obtaining, maintaining or advancing in employment then VR will assist you! Watch this video and visit the Indiana VR website to find out more. If you would like to request me as your AT trainer, please contact me!
I have no financial relationship with Apple but I am experienced with the accessibility settings and apps available to iPhone, iPad, and Macbook. I find these tools to be a great fit for people with a range of disabilities. I can also support you with JAWS and Windows! Please note that I do not currently perform Assistive Technology evaluations but will be happy to lend my opinion based on my experiences and training.
